Video Size Calculator: How the File Size Is Estimated

This video size calculator multiplies the duration by the combined video and audio bitrate, adds 5% for container and metadata overhead, and converts the result to MB and GB. Audio defaults to 128 kbps when you leave it blank, so you only need duration, video bitrate and resolution for a quick estimate.

The resolution you pick is used to check your bitrate against a typical target, about 8,000 kbps for 1080p and 45,000 kbps for 4K, and the result flags files that will be slow to upload. Run it before exporting to see whether a Short stays under 100 MB for faster TikTok and Instagram processing.

How does a video file size calculator work out the size?

Size in MB = duration (seconds) × (video bitrate + audio bitrate in kbps) × 1.05 ÷ 8,192. The 1.05 covers container overhead. A 60-second 1080p clip at 8,000 kbps video and 128 kbps audio comes to about 62.5 MB.
